After breakfast and checking out from the hotel, we took a taxi to the train station to pick up our rental car, a Kia Sportage diesel-hybrid !! Here's Jan doing an inspection on the car. Joe continued to take pictures from the 5th floor of the garage looking out at the train station and surrounding neighborhoods.
That's one of the trams that runs around the city.
After a visit with the Europcar inspector, in which Jan noted several marks on the car and tire rims, we proceeded to find the right bridge to cross the river Garonne and proceed East.
Surprisingly we didn't need to follow the map because signs to Bergerac led us perfectly through the many many round-a-bouts!
Another spectacular weather day! Once out of Bordeaux we cruised through many farms, woodlands, and vineyards. (the roads were about to get much smaller!)
We would cross over the Dordogne River several times. We enjoyed the travel through many small and very old towns.
The roads continued to get smaller and smaller. After awhile we turned on the navigation system for help .. and we think (she) was having fun with us, sending us to more remote hill towns!
It was beautiful country, but the road wasn't built for 2-car-wide travel! And .. the road was very serpentine! Look at the navigation map!
More small towns followed.
We were getting closer to Sarlat-Caneda when we went through Les Eyzies-de-Tayac. Look at this entrance to the town!
A few kilometers from town Jan captured a picture of an interesting castle up in the hills.
We finally made it to Sarlat-Caneda and found our bed & breakfast by 6:30pm after several loops through town. We'll stay 4-nights as we discover the many medieval towns and interesting sights in the area.
This is our little room.
After a bit of rest we ventured into the medieval center of town. This was a very important market town in the 1400 and 1500's! Look at these buildings!
We stopped and ate dinner at 8pm at Le Regent. Jan had some pasta and I had an excellent duck dinner! I'm going to try and have Jan taste some foie gras (fattened goose or duck livers) in the next several days.

ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous! You've got the right color car to cheer on the Winterhawks! Cameron is taking me to Game 1 of the Portland-Seattle playoff series tonight for Mother's Day. The architecture is so cool - all the spires and points on the roofs!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the foie gras but the town looks quite picturesque! Bnb looks cute, too!
ReplyDeleteHawks win, Hawks win! Cameron and I had a great time at the game tonight!
